Our June 2019 mission trip is under way with 7 participants. This update for Day 1 in Kenya is from h.o.w? Ministry Executive Director Michelle Outman:
Day 1 - MEMPHIS, ATLANTA, PARIS... AND FINALLY, NAIROBI!
We arrived Heart Lodge on Sunday night just before midnight. One of our team members, Sara Ruth Nelson, who attends the University of Arkansas and is a sorority sister of Paeton's (Michelle's daughter), was supposed to meet us in Paris and fly with us to Kenya.
Unfortunately, on Saturday she was to fly from Memphis to Atlanta and then from Atlanta to Paris, where she was to meet up with the team. But on Saturday, Atlanta experienced severe weather and the airport shut down. No flights coming in or leaving the airport. Her flight was delayed over 6 times, and there she sat in Memphis for 10 hours before she was able to catch a flight to Atlanta.
Once in Atlanta, she got on another flight to Paris and arrived in the afternoon on Sunday. She had to spend the night in Paris and take the first flight to Nairobi on Monday at 12 noon. She finally arrived in Nairobi at 10 pm Monday. Her suitcase did not make it on her flight and is supposed to be here Wednesday night at 9:00 pm.
Sara Ruth is a rock star of epic proportions! She has been challenged both mentally and physically in her first couple of days of this mission trip. We are thrilled to have her with us now, and she is thrilled to be here. Her Pi Beta Phi sisters and teammates Paeton, Natalie, and Cassidy are lending her clothing and helping her feel at home here in Kenya!
Sara Ruth in Nairobi at last!
